Cabin Pet Policy

  • Air Transat welcomes small dogs and cats to travel in the cabin.
  • The combined weight of the pet and carrier must not exceed 17 lbs (8 kg).
  • For most destinations, the pet must be at least 12 weeks old and fully weaned.
  • However, for flights to the U.S., the animal must be at least 6 months old, and for flights to Guyana, the animal must be at least 4 months old.

Checked Baggage Policy

Restrictions & Requirements

Breed Restrictions

Air Transat does not allow the following breeds of animals to travel on board: Mastiffs, Pit Bulls, Akita, Caucasian Ovcharka, Karabash Dog, Rottweiler, Wolf-dog hybrids and Doberman Pinscher. The following breeds are exempt from the above restriction and will be accepted for transport: Bull Mastiffs and French Mastiffs.

Temperature Restrictions

While no specific temperature restrictions are mentioned, there are special provisions for brachycephalic (short-nosed) breeds which are more susceptible to heat and respiratory issues. These breeds require a larger, well-ventilated carrier and a signed liability waiver.

International Rules

  • For flights to the U.S., pets must be at least 6 months old.

  • For all other international destinations, pets must be at least 12 weeks old.
