Cabin Policy
British Airways does not permit pets to travel in the cabin of the aircraft on any of their routes. The only exception to this policy is for registered assistance dogs, which can accompany their owners in the cabin free of charge. Emotional support animals are not recognized as assistance animals and must travel in the hold as cargo.
Cargo Policy
British Airways offers cargo transport for pets through its sister company, IAG Cargo, for pets traveling to the UK, and through a partnership with PetAir UK for pets traveling from the UK. These specialized services ensure that pets are handled by experienced professionals in climate-controlled environments. Bookings are managed by these third-party companies, who also assist with documentation and other travel requirements.
Breed Restrictions
British Airways does not transport Bulldogs of any type, Pugs, or Pekingese. Brachycephalic (flat-faced) breeds such as Bullmastiffs, Boxers, Boston Terriers, and Shih Tzus, as well as cat breeds like Persians, Himalayans, and Exotics, require a travel crate that is 10% larger than the standard size to ensure adequate ventilation.
