Cabin Pet Policy

  • WestJet allows small pets, including cats, dogs, rabbits, and birds, to travel in the cabin.
  • The pet must be in a soft-sided, airline-approved carrier that fits under the seat in front of you.
  • The pet must be able to stand, sit, turn around, and lie down comfortably in the carrier.
  • A fee applies for pets travelling in the cabin, and the kennel counts as a personal item towards your carry-on allowance.
  • Pets are not permitted in the Business cabin on the 787 Dreamliner.

Breed Restrictions

  • Brachycephalic (short/snub-nosed) breeds of cats and dogs cannot travel in the baggage compartment.
  • This includes the following breeds: Cats: British Shorthair, Burmese, Exotic Shorthair, Himalayan, Persian, Selkirk Rex, Scottish Fold.
  • Dogs: Affenpinscher, Brasileiro, Brussels Griffon, Boston Terrier, Boxer, Bulldog (all breeds), Bullmastiff, Cane Corso, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Chihuahua (apple-headed), Chow Chow, Dogue de Bordeaux, English Toy Spaniel, Japanese Chin, Lhasa Apso, Neapolitan Mastiff, Pekingese, Pug (all breeds), Shar-Pei, Shih Tzu, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Tibetan Spaniel.
  • Strong breeds that are not accepted as checked baggage and must be transported via WestJet Cargo include: American Bulldog, American Staffordshire Terrier, Anatolian Shepard, Bandog, Cane Corso, Caucasian Shepherd, Doberman, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro, Mastiff (all breeds), Pitbull (all breeds), Presa Canario, Rottweiler, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Wolf Dog Hybrids.

Temperature Restrictions

  • For many destinations, including Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Cayman Islands, Puerto Rico, St.
  • Maarten, St.
  • Lucia, and Turks and Caicos, pets are not accepted in checked baggage from May 15 to October 31.
  • For other destinations, it is recommended to check with the airline for specific restrictions.

International Rules

  • WestJet does not accept pets for travel to/from Barbados, Hawaii, Ireland (Dublin), Jamaica or the United Kingdom.
  • For other international destinations, it is the passenger's responsibility to meet all entrance requirements, including health certificates and vaccinations.
  • It is recommended to contact the consulate, embassy or appropriate government authority of the destination country for detailed information.

Important Notes

Pets are not accepted in the Business cabin on the 787 Dreamliner. Also, specific and extensive breed restrictions apply for both checked baggage and cargo.
