Cabin Policy

WestJet allows small pets, including cats, dogs, rabbits, and birds, to travel in the cabin. The pet must be in a soft-sided, airline-approved carrier that fits under the seat in front of you. The pet must be able to stand, sit, turn around, and lie down comfortably in the carrier. A fee applies for pets travelling in the cabin, and the kennel counts as a personal item towards your carry-on allowance. Pets are not permitted in the Business cabin on the 787 Dreamliner.

Cargo Policy

WestJet offers cargo transport for pets through WestJet Cargo. This is mandatory for strong breeds and brachycephalic breeds that are not allowed in the cabin or as checked baggage. The animal must be in a CR 82 crate made from weld or wire mesh, metal, wood or a synthetic material other than plastic. It is recommended to contact WestJet Cargo for specific details and booking.

Breed Restrictions

Brachycephalic (short/snub-nosed) breeds of cats and dogs cannot travel in the baggage compartment. This includes the following breeds: Cats: British Shorthair, Burmese, Exotic Shorthair, Himalayan, Persian, Selkirk Rex, Scottish Fold. Dogs: Affenpinscher, Brasileiro, Brussels Griffon, Boston Terrier, Boxer, Bulldog (all breeds), Bullmastiff, Cane Corso, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Chihuahua (apple-headed), Chow Chow, Dogue de Bordeaux, English Toy Spaniel, Japanese Chin, Lhasa Apso, Neapolitan Mastiff, Pekingese, Pug (all breeds), Shar-Pei, Shih Tzu, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Tibetan Spaniel.
