Quick answer

This guide presents current issuer terms alongside the checks that can affect how they work.

Key facts

Begin with the recurring cost, then read the conditions before assigning personal value to any feature.

How rewards are earned

Read earning entries as separate paths, not as a single headline rate.

How points are earned

8 points per $1 on card-paid purchases through Chase Travel; 4 points per $1 on flights and hotels booked direct; 3 points per $1 on dining at restaurants, including takeout and eligible delivery services; 1 point per $1 on all other purchases.

Booking channel matters. Only the card-paid portion of a Chase Travel purchase earns 8 points. Reserve Travel Designer purchases earn 8 points only when booked directly through Chase Travel, and FROSCH purchases do not earn 8 points. Direct flight and hotel purchases through Reserve Travel Designers or FROSCH earn 4 points only when booked directly with the airline or hotel.

Earning exclusions and category coding

Purchases receiving the $300 Annual Travel Credit or $500 The Edit credit do not earn points. Other non-purchase exclusions include balance transfers, cash advances, cash-like transactions, checks accessing the account, interest, unauthorized or fraudulent charges, and fees including the annual fee.

Rewards-category qualification depends on the Visa or Mastercard merchant code assigned by the merchant or processor. A merchant that appears to fit a category may not qualify, and a payment intermediary or wallet may prevent category processing.

Travel credit and selected credits

A credit should be treated as a rule to check, not as a personal-value estimate.

Annual travel credit — amount and category

$300 in automatic statement credits for purchases in Chase’s travel category.

The credit applies up to the stated annual amount to purchases in Chase’s travel category. A complete universal merchant-category inventory is not established, and Chase does not determine whether merchants code or bill a transaction correctly.

Annual travel credit — timing, account status, and restrictions

The annual period runs from account open date through the first statement date after that anniversary, then each following 12 monthly billing cycles. Credit availability is required when the qualifying purchase is made; the credit is allocated to the period in which the transaction posts.

Returns and refunds reduce eligible purchase treatment. Chase may reverse a credit for a return, cancellation, modification, or an account closed within 90 days after credit receipt. The account must be open and not in default at fulfillment. Credits are expected within 3 business days but may take up to 4 weeks.

The Edit prepaid-stay credit

Up to $500 in statement credits each calendar year: up to $250 per qualifying purchase; qualifying stays are prepaid “Pay Now” stays of 2 or more nights booked with The Edit by Chase Travel.

The stated terms begin January 1, 2026. Credit availability is required at purchase; the credited portion does not earn points; processing can shift a purchase to the next period; and the account must be open and not in default at fulfillment. Credits can be reversed after a return, cancellation, modification, or account closure within 90 days.

Select-hotel Chase Travel credit — time-limited

$250 maximum in calendar year 2026 for prepaid “Pay Now” stays of 2 or more nights through Chase Travel at the specified select hotel groups.

This applies only to purchases from January 1 through December 31, 2026 and only at the listed brands and groups; it is not a permanent general Reserve benefit. Credit availability is required at purchase, the qualifying portion does not earn points, and the account must be open and not in default at fulfillment.

Sapphire Reserve Exclusive Tables dining credit

Up to $300 per calendar year at select restaurants: up to $150 January–June and up to $150 July–December.

Purchases must be identified by Chase as made directly with select restaurants. Merchandise, gift cards, and purchases through third-party processors or delivery platforms may not qualify, and the restaurant list can change. Credit availability, posting allocation, reversal, and account-status conditions apply.

StubHub and viagogo credit

Up to $300 per calendar year through December 31, 2027: up to $150 January–June and up to $150 July–December.

A one-time activation on Chase.com or the Chase Mobile app is required. The credit covers direct qualifying purchases, excluding gift cards, through specified StubHub or viagogo sites and apps; certain UK StubHub International purchases do not qualify. Credit availability, posting allocation, reversal, and open, not-in-default account conditions apply.

Global Entry, TSA PreCheck, or NEXUS application-fee credit

One statement credit every 4 years, up to $120, after the first eligible application fee is charged to the Reserve card by the primary cardmember or an authorized user.

Only Global Entry, TSA PreCheck, or NEXUS qualifies. The charge must be direct with DHS, an eligible ttp.cbp.dhs.gov partner, or an authorized TSA PreCheck enrollment provider; travel agencies and application-assistance services do not qualify. The account must be open and not in default at fulfillment.

Lounge access: what to check before you go

Plan lounge visits with the documents, timing, and venue rules in hand.

Priority Pass Select access

Primary cardmembers and authorized users receive automatically activated Priority Pass Select membership and complimentary access to participating Priority Pass lounges; each may bring up to 2 accompanying guests.

Additional guests are $27 per guest per visit after a signed visit is reported. Access may be denied for capacity, and participating lounges or facilities can change. Entry requires a valid physical Chase card or Priority Pass digital membership card; a valid card only in a digital wallet is not accepted. The account must be open and not in default.

Chase Sapphire Lounge by The Club access

Reserve primary cardmembers and authorized users have access to all Chase Sapphire Lounge by The Club locations, with up to 2 guests at no charge; additional guests cost $27.

Eligible cardmembers may enter up to 3 hours before a departing flight with activated Chase-issued Priority Pass Select membership and an eligible departing boarding pass. Entry may use the physical Chase card or activated Chase-issued Priority Pass Select membership plus a valid boarding pass. Eligible Reserve cardmembers and authorized users are automatically enrolled in Priority Pass.

Select Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge and Café access

Reserve primary cardmembers and authorized users receive access at participating Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounges and Air Canada Cafés, with 1 complimentary guest each when departing on a Star Alliance member airline.

Air Canada Signature Suites and all Montréal YUL lounges are excluded. Additional guests have stated current local-currency fees. Access is only while awaiting a departing or connecting flight, not at final-destination lounges; cardholder and guests need eligible same-day or overnight Star Alliance boarding passes; and access depends on lounge capacity. The benefit may change or be canceled without notice.

Lounge capacity and visit/access limitations

Do not characterize lounge access as “unlimited.” Priority Pass access may be denied at capacity; Sapphire Lounge entry is limited to up to 3 hours before a departing flight under the stated entry rule.

There is no single permanent capacity or visit rule established here that applies uniformly to every venue across every network.

Use points and transfer only when needed

A transfer decision is separate from the question of how points can be used.

Ultimate Rewards redemption routes

Ultimate Rewards points can be used for available rewards including cash, gift cards, Chase Travel, transfers to participating frequent-travel programs, and eligible pay-with-points offers.

Do not assign a universal point value. Redemption values vary by reward option, and available items or options can change. For travel, compare the cash fare, reward requirement, taxes and fees, and fare or award conditions before choosing a route.

Transfers to participating frequent-travel programs

Transfers are available in 1,000-point increments to participating frequent-travel program accounts belonging to the cardmember or one additional household member listed as an authorized user; Chase says most requests process by the next business day but may take up to 7 business days.

Check award availability and the required partner balance before transferring. Transferred points are subject to the partner program’s terms. Once transferred, points cannot be refunded and the transaction cannot be canceled. No partner table is included.

Travel protections

Protection language describes possible coverage, not a promise that a claim will be paid.

Travel protection — Auto Rental Coverage

May reimburse covered rental-vehicle theft or collision damage up to $75,000; coverage is described as primary in the U.S. and abroad where available, except that for New York residents with personal auto insurance the U.S. coverage is excess.

Use the card and/or redeemable Rewards to initiate and complete the entire rental; only the primary renter and permitted drivers are eligible; and decline the rental agency CDW or LDW, because accepting it cancels this benefit. Rental periods are limited to 31 consecutive days. Exclusions include liability, injury, property damage outside the rental vehicle, personal belongings, certain vehicles, rentals over 31 days, and peer-to-peer car sharing. Report as soon as reasonably possible and no later than 100 days; submit requested documents within 365 days.

Travel protection — Trip Cancellation and Interruption Insurance

May reimburse covered travel expenses for a covered cancellation or interruption up to $10,000 per covered traveler, $20,000 per trip, and $40,000 per account per 12 months, limited to the actual covered-card or redeemable-Rewards charge.

All or part of the trip cost must be charged to the covered card and/or paid with redeemable Rewards. Coverage requires a listed covered reason; ordinary change of plans, many pre-existing conditions or events, supplier insolvency, certain pandemic-related circumstances, and other exclusions apply. It is secondary or excess, and a covered trip cannot exceed 60 days. Report within 20 days, or as soon as reasonably possible, and submit requested documents within 90 days.

Travel protection — Trip Delay Reimbursement

May reimburse reasonable additional expenses up to $500 per covered traveler per trip when a common carrier is delayed more than 6 hours or requires an overnight stay.

All or part of the common-carrier fare must be charged to the card and/or paid with redeemable Rewards. Covered delay causes are equipment failure, inclement weather, strike, or hijacking or skyjacking; the benefit is secondary or excess. Reasonable expenses include meals, lodging, toiletries, and medication. Claim within 60 days, or as soon as reasonably possible, with requested documents within 100 days.

Travel protection — Baggage Delay Insurance

May reimburse emergency essential-personal-item purchases when checked baggage is delayed or misdirected by a common carrier more than 6 hours: $100 per day after the initial 6 hours, up to 5 days.

All or part of the common-carrier fare must be charged to the card and/or paid with redeemable Rewards; there is no coverage on return to the point of origin. The delay must be reported to the carrier, and the benefit is secondary or excess. Listed exclusions include jewelry and watches and cameras or other electronic equipment. Claim within 20 days, or as soon as reasonably possible, and submit documents within 90 days.

Travel protection — Emergency Evacuation and Transportation

May cover necessary authorized emergency evacuation or transportation up to $100,000 when a covered traveler becomes seriously sick or injured on a covered trip; repatriation-of-remains expenses may be covered up to $15,000.

All or part of the covered trip must be paid with card or redeemable Rewards. The service provider must authorize and arrange the service in advance, and an attending physician must certify medical necessity. The trip must be 5–60 days and more than 100 miles from the primary residence. Local first-responder transport, unauthorized arrangements, medical-treatment travel, and locations or services subject to stated availability or sanctions restrictions are excluded or not eligible.

A neutral framework for evaluating the recurring cost

A neutral review starts with the recurring cost and the reader’s own patterns, rather than a universal verdict.

Interest caution for later editorial use

Exact APR is deliberately omitted. Carrying a balance can create interest charges, which can outweigh rewards or benefit value.

This is a conceptual caution, not a valuation or rate claim. The pricing disclosure describes when interest on new purchases is avoided and when interest begins on balance transfers or cash advances.

Which conditions fit my real booking, dining, travel, and airport patterns?

Check cadence, eligibility, account status, and other stated conditions before relying on a feature.

For travel, compare cash fare, reward requirement, taxes or fees, and ticket or award conditions.

Could interest charges change the analysis?

Treat borrowing cost separately from rewards and benefits.

Have I checked current issuer terms before acting?

Recheck terms and live access conditions before making plans or an irreversible transfer.

What to verify before relying on a benefit

Terms can change, so confirm the current issuer documentation before relying on a benefit or making travel plans.

Not established gaps

Not established: a complete Chase-published merchant-code inventory for every travel-credit transaction, a universal uncapped-earn claim, and a uniform every-location lounge availability or visit rule are not established from the current terms used for this guide. No partner table or universal point-value claim is provided.

Check issuer documents for details not established here. Missing details do not mean that a feature is unrestricted.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Chase Sapphire Reserve annual fee?

The recurring annual fee is $795 per year. Each authorized user costs $195 per year. These are recurring costs, not benefit valuations.

How does Chase Sapphire Reserve earn points?

The published core rates are 8 points per $1 on card-paid Chase Travel purchases, 4 points per $1 on direct flights and hotels, 3 points per $1 on dining, and 1 point per $1 on other purchases. Booking path, exclusions, and merchant or processor coding matter; a universal uncapped-earn claim is not established.

How does the annual travel credit work?

The card provides up to $300 in automatic statement credits for purchases in Chase’s travel category. The annual period follows the account-opening anniversary structure, credit availability is required when a qualifying purchase is made, and the credited portion does not earn points. Merchant coding, posting, returns, reversals, and account status can matter.

What lounge access does the card include?

Primary cardmembers and authorized users have stated access across participating Priority Pass Select lounges, Chase Sapphire Lounge by The Club locations, and participating Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounges and Air Canada Cafés under distinct guest, membership, boarding-pass, timing, and capacity conditions. Do not describe access as unlimited.

How can Chase Ultimate Rewards points be used?

Available redemption routes include cash, gift cards, Chase Travel, transfers to participating frequent-travel programs, and eligible pay-with-points offers. Redemption values and available options can change, so no universal point value is stated here.

Should award availability be found before transferring points?

Yes. Check award availability and the required partner balance before transferring. Transfers are available in 1,000-point increments under the stated account rules, and once points are transferred they cannot be refunded or canceled.

What travel protections may apply?

Qualified terms describe possible Auto Rental Coverage, Trip Cancellation and Interruption Insurance, Trip Delay Reimbursement, Baggage Delay Insurance, and Emergency Evacuation and Transportation benefits. Payment requirements, covered events, exclusions, documentation, claim deadlines, and benefit limits apply.

Does the card charge a foreign transaction fee?

No. The current pricing disclosure lists foreign transactions as none. This fee statement does not assure card acceptance, exchange rate, or merchant pricing.
