Accuracy & Verification

Fact-Checking Policy

Every fare comparison, airline review, and travel guide published on Camli goes through a structured fact-checking process. This page explains how we verify information before publication.

Our Verification Process

Camli's fact-checking process operates at three levels, depending on the type of content being published:

Content TypeVerification LevelSources Required
Fare comparisonsFull verification2+ GDS sources + airline website
Airline policy claimsPrimary sourceOfficial airline documentation
Route informationGDS verificationSabre/Amadeus schedule data
Destination guidesMulti-sourceTourism board + gov advisory + editorial review
Industry statisticsAttribution requiredNamed source with date (IATA, DOT, BTS)

Primary Data Sources

We rely on the following authoritative sources for fare and route data:

  • Sabre GDS: Real-time fare availability, schedule data, and published fare filings for 400+ airlines worldwide. Camli holds a direct Sabre agency connection.
  • Amadeus GDS: Secondary verification source for fare availability and pricing. Used to cross-check Sabre data and identify discrepancies.
  • Airline websites: Direct airline booking engines are checked for published retail fares when making "savings vs. retail" comparisons.
  • IATA: Industry statistics, safety data, and airline accreditation information sourced from the International Air Transport Association.
  • US DOT / BTS: On-time performance data, consumer complaint statistics, and route traffic data from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics.
  • Official tourism boards: Destination entry requirements, visa information, and travel advisory data.

Fare Verification Methodology

When we publish a fare comparison (e.g., "Save 40% vs. Google Flights"), the following steps are completed:

  1. GDS query: A fare analyst runs a live availability search in Sabre for the specific route, dates, and cabin class.
  2. Retail benchmark: The same route/dates are searched on at least two public booking platforms (Google Flights, Expedia, or airline direct) to establish the retail benchmark price.
  3. Price recording: Both the consolidator fare and retail benchmark are recorded with timestamps, fare class codes, and booking conditions.
  4. Savings calculation: The percentage savings is calculated as: (retail - consolidator) / retail × 100
  5. Senior review: A senior fare analyst reviews the comparison for accuracy and context before publication.

We do not cherry-pick dates or routes to inflate savings percentages. Comparisons use the same travel dates, cabin class, and booking conditions for both prices.

What We Do Not Publish Without Verification

  • Fare prices without a timestamp and source attribution
  • Savings percentages based on a single data point or outlier pricing
  • Airline safety claims without IATA or aviation authority sourcing
  • Customer testimonials without verification of the booking (name, route, date)
  • Industry statistics without a named, dated source
  • Route availability claims without GDS schedule verification

Limitations & Disclaimers

We acknowledge the following limitations of our fact-checking process:

  • Fare volatility: Airfares change frequently. A fare verified at the time of publication may no longer be available when a reader sees the article.
  • GDS vs. direct pricing: Some airlines offer web-only fares not available in GDS systems. Our comparisons note when this limitation applies.
  • Regional availability: Consolidator fares may vary by market. Prices shown are typically for US-based travelers unless otherwise noted.
